Title : Automatic Algorithm Method of Area Measurement for Screening of Lumbar Foraminal Stenosis
Abstract :

The purpose of this study is to present a new method to measurement of lumbar foraminal area with the development of automation algorithm software. In addition, we investigated the software’s usefulness and limitations. Lumbar MRI images were acquired from 17 subjects aging between 20 and 30 years and 44 intervertebral foramens were assessed blindly by two physicians using two measurement methods. First method is drawing and measuring the foraminal area using software PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) by handwork. Second method is measuring the gross area by ALGO (semi-automatic Algorithm application) software. We analyzed the measuring time and reliability of two methods. Inter-rater reliability of ALGO software for measuring of foraminal area is significantly higher than non-automation method. ALGO software showed significant saving the measuring time. ALGO software could be useful for measurement of foraminal area. This method has the advantage of higher reliability and saving time for measurement.
